Stephen King still has the touch after all these years.

I just finished Stephen King’s new novel, Lisey’s Story. I’ve been a Stephen King fan for about 22 years now and he still can do it to me. He draws me in and takes me to a world he has made and it becomes a part of me. That’s what I strive for in my writing.

Great writers like King have made me want to write they have put the passion for the written word in my heart and there it continually burns. I know that I have a lot to learn and that makes me happy. The day I stop learning is the day they plant me.

What writers have put that passion in you? I know that many don’t consider Stephen King great literature, but I would love to be able to write like him. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if he shared about his passion?

Thankfully he has done that. King is one of the best writers, in my humble opinion and the fact that he has written about one of the things he does best, writing, makes me ecstatic. There is no one better to learn from than from one that has mastered the craft and art of writing. His book, On Writing, was what reignited the passion to write again.

Back to Lisey’s Story. While I think that King’s worst books are better than most people’s best, I think that his last couple of books where not the best. They still drew you in and made you care about the characters, but they seemed to lack something. Lisey’s Story has proven to be up to the standard of the King of old. I’m glad he’s back and hope he continues in this fashion.

What author’s inspire you to write? When was the last time you read one of their books? Take the time to dig into a book that has inspired you in the past. Maybe it will reignite a fire you didn’t know was there or keep that ember that already exists alive.
