While taking a minute to surf the web, I ran across some writing contests. I wrote an article about writing contests and their benefits that you may want to peruse. While writing contests are great for the aspiring writer, I do caution that you fully check out those running it, especially if they are asking for money. That being said, check these out -
A unique poetry contest is giving away a house. The gentleman that owns the home is in the military and wants to get rid of his house. It's in Michigan and the real estate market and economy is in the toilet right now, so he thought he would take this unique way of getting rid of his house. Get more details at www.winmymihome.com.
A new publishing company, Iota Publishing, is running a contest with the winner getting $1000 and a contract to have their novel published, which could get you even more cash. It's a $10 entrance fee and they publish suspense, thriller, mystery, sci-fi, and fantasy novels. The deadline is April 2, 2007.
New Letters magazine is having three different contests, each with a payout of $1500. The contests are for poetry, essays, and short stories. There is an entrance fee of $15 for the first entry and $10 for every entry after that. You do get a years subscription with your entrance fee. They also say that every piece is considered for publication too. Even if you don't win the contest, you might be able to get your work published in the magazine. The deadline is March 18, so go to their website to get more information.
