Every week, writers from all backgrounds of race, religion, and gender gather to learn from one of the best -- Elana Golden. In The Writing Studio, classes are limited to seven writers and take place in an aesthetic space, in an informal, calm atmosphere. Meditation, music, literature and myths are used to spark and inspire one's creative process - a heart-based process, independent of any structure, paradigm or formula.
Each writer who enters the workshop moves at their own pace. Elana guides them open their hearts and minds to uncover past memories, feelings, and thoughts that affected them personally and shaped them into who they are today. She encourages each student to use their personal writing to propel and shape it into literature. She begins her full day workshops with a meditation to clear the mind and heart.
Elana helps lower the guard for anyone who holds fears such as: "I'm not good enough to be a writer," My life isn't interesting enough," or "How do I even begin to write?" She brings forth the cathartic experience inherent in all of us with the artistic expression of one's wound or past trauma. Once the students express their deep-seated emotions by putting pen to paper, they learn to release and finally move on.
For authors with writer's block, she frees them up from the perils of perfectionism and rigid structure, allowing them to freely pour out to the page as guided by their feelings. This process allows the writer to embrace the joy of writing and allow it to flow without constraints.
"Her unique format, intimate setting, and creative consciousness guided me to discover a deep, rich, fearless, and powerful voice, and I have seen her do it with dozens of other writers too. Not only am I a better writer for her classes, I am a also profoundly more fulfilled human being."
"Her words of wisdom, encouragement, and inspiration have helped me get in touch with the writer and creative being that I always wanted to be, but didn't believe that I was. With Elana's help I have learned to trust my own creative process, to find and love my own unique voice, and to tell the stories that want to be told."
Elana Golden is a writer, teacher, theater, and award winning film director. She has also served as a script-supervisor, script consultant, and story editor. She holds a B.A. in Film from New York University and an M.A. in spiritual psychology from the University of Santa Monica.
