Artists don't generally create from being struck by inspirational lightning. Instead, a daily work schedule increases the likelihood of productivity and quality.
The mythical image of a writer or any other creative artist is of a being who is randomly struck by the lightning of inspiration. Many artists claim that they can't create unless they are given the sudden and almost magical desire to do so. However, while great art can be realized in these moments, such instances are rare. The true artist creates on a regular basis, keeping to a schedule or routine and treating their art as a vocation. Writers who write on an everyday basis will see a variety of positive changes occur to their work. After maintaining a committed approach to writing for a period of time, the writer will produce more, their work will be of better quality, their attitude to their work will strengthen and improve, and moments of such seemingly miraculous inspiration will become more common. Regular Writing Increases ProductivityWhile it's not that important as a writer to publish an immense amount of texts, it is crucial that one write a significant number of works. The more one writes, the more one is likely to create poems, stories, plays or other genres. Keeping to a regular writing schedule for several hours a day at a particular time allows one to experiment with a variety of forms and styles. One can take more risks if one writes regularly. Inevitably, a greater number of texts are produced. And if they're good enough to publish in the end, wonderful! If not, one will still have more material to choose from. Regular Writing Improves QualityIf one only writes occasionally or when elusive inspiration strikes, then one is likely to grow more slowly as a writer. As with any skill, the more one practices, the greater the likelihood that prowess will develop rapidly. Writing a copious amount allows the writer to cast away material that doesn't meet the required standards. A writing schedule enables one to work at a range of skills, forms and ideas. One edits more in the time allotted by a consistent writing schedule. The quality of one's writing invariably improves over time when one works rigorously at one's abilities and craft. Regular Writing Boosts ConfidenceBeing an artist is an often uncertain condition, financially, psychologically and creatively. Keeping to a regular writing schedule increases one's sense of worth as a writer. Being committed to one's writing as one is to any vocation of importance enables ability, vision and personal strength to rise. Further, when one writes according to a daily schedule, one is more likely to explore the possibilities of writing material that has the potential to sell, as well as to satisfy one creatively. Regular Writing Increases InspirationArtists are channels for what is created through their abilities and perseverence. The more one effectively makes oneself open to the energies and images of one's art, the higher the chances of being inspired. Daily writing vastly increases the likelihood of experiencing artistic epiphanies. As the saying goes, perspiration, or hard work, is much more responsible for good art than inspiration. However, one will enjoy the vital surges of inspired writing with greater frequency if one writes at a certain time, for a regular period, on a daily basis.
